Just a quick question about dying your hair, my gf's hair is naturally dark and she wants to go blonde, she has never dyed her hair before and she is convinced to go blonde from a dark shade it needs to be gradually lighten in colour over a period of time, Is this true? i was under the impression that dye goes into your hair, leave it in a while, wash it out walla - different colour

Whatever tone of blonde she chooses she may (or may not) reach the ideal color until after one or two bleaching sessions.
Yes, she'll be bleaching, not dying and unless she wants to look like a $20 dollar trailer park trollop....SEEK A PROFESSIONAL!!!!

 

I have brown hair and decided to go blond for my hubby for Christmas one year without telling him so I made an appointment at the beauty parlor across the street from where I worked. At 4:45 pm my hair was ORANGE and I had to meet my family at 5 pm...I was in tears!!!

When my kids saw me, they told me I could paint brown stripes in my hair and go as a woolyworm. I had to go to another place the next day to get it fixed. Needless to say, I never tried going blond again...

I did go to a professional!

 

I use to bleech my mohawk out a lot to get a different color in it like green. If you use bleech and you have dark hair it will turn redish orange the first time you wash it out, you gotta do it a second time to get it really light. Depends really on what kind of dye you're using.

 

Sadly not every salon employs professionals Lioness. Going in and saying you want to be blonde can be a very VERY bad thing ( especially if they're a chain salon, like great clips and the likes). Definitely talk to the beautician BEFORE you let them do ANYTHING. He/she needs to be aware of your hair structure and know what to use. The way bleach is prepared is essential and if you have a lot of red pigment in your hair it WILL turn orange. Always ask for the mix to be made with an ash tone, to eliminate that "baby chicken" color. That said....it will take at least 2 sessions to get it blonde, if you're going from very dark to very light, unless you're looking for a dishwater blonde color or a wheat color.
I'm a natural strawberry blonde and in the summer it turns orange, so I bleach my hair to light blonde every 6 to 8 weeks. If I let it go too long, the yellowish, brassiness comes back and I HATE having orange hair...lol

Thanks for posting the pic, yes she is hot. Did you read about the girl who died after applying hair dye? She went into anaphylactic shock on Saturday night after applying the dye, apparently a chemical called PPD is listed as the cause?

 

If you're going from light to dark it's easy to do in your own bathroom. Going the other way, from dark to fair, I advise having a professional do it. I change my hair colour as often as my knickers and offer my suggestion with considerable experience.

 

I noticed you were blonde for a while last year, do you still have those knickers? I'd like to buy them
