The teenage girls' family were ISKCON devotees. Miscreants targeting ISKCON-affiliated families had threatened to abduct her and kill her family

A young girl, in a desperate bid to save her life, crossed into India from Bangladesh and reached Fatehpur Border Out Post which falls under the jurisdiction of the 17th Battalion of West Bengal’s Kishanganj BSF Headquarters.
The soldiers were shocked when they saw her late Tuesday night. They approached her and inquired about her name and address.

Stationed at the Fatehpur BOP area of Chopra block in West Bengal’s Uttar Dinajpur, the border patrol apprehended the 17-year-old. She was subsequently handed over to the Chopra police station.
“The girl has some relatives in Jalpaiguri district. We have got in touch with them. We are trying to find out what made her cross the border and come to this side and who helped her in doing so," the police officer of Chopra police station said.
The minor’s family, residing in the Panchagarh district of Bangladesh, is associated with ISKCON. Her maternal grandfather revealed that miscreants in Bangladesh have been issuing threats to families affiliated with ISKCON, stating their intent to kidnap their daughters. Left with no other option, the minor was compelled to flee to India.
“They are devotees of ISKCON. Fundamentalists have threatened to kidnap her and murder the entire family. They were planning to send her here. She was about to come to India but we had no confirmation about the date," one of the teenager’s relatives told PTI over the phone.
He shared that her father is paralysed and her mother is also unwell; both were deeply concerned for their daughter’s safety and so they sent her away. However, he was unable to explain how she managed to reach India.
The family recounted horrific incidents of rape and murder targeting individuals associated with ISKCON. They pleaded for immediate intervention from the Indian government, urging them to ensure the safety of Hindus in Bangladesh.
The minor was en route to a relative’s residence in Belakoba, Jalpaiguri. The police contacted her relatives in Belakoba, summoning them to the Chopra police station during the night. Following an interrogation, senior police and BSF officers initiated legal proceedings. Arrangements were made through the District Child Welfare Association to safely escort the girl back home.
In reaction to the incident, ISKCON Kolkata Vice President Radaramn Das requested Union Home Minister Amit Shah to intervene.
“It is heartbreaking and deeply distressing to learn about a minor girl from Bangladesh who, in sheer desperation, tried to cross into India alone, only to be arrested by the BSF and thrown into juvenile custody," Das posted on X.
